I’m not really sure where I stand on Twitter at the moment. On one hand I think “yeah, why not? I’ll just go for it. I mean what’s not to like about keeping more in touch with people and seeing where they are and what they are doing all day long.” Then on the other hand I’m like, “I really don’t get it. Can’t people just see my facebook status and be cool with that. I mean if you don’t have facebook then you aren’t even a real human!”

So here is your moment, your opportunity. If you think that I should join twitter nation then say so. Or just say bag it and I will understand your sentiments.

happy commenting...

This year there is a strong contingent of people from FBCGV who will be participating in a Turkey Trot in Downtown Frederick. Most of my friends joining in this Thanksgiving morning event will be running a 5k or 3.2 miles for those of you not familiar with the conversion system!

It is not too late to join Team Valley in this epic adventure. If you are interested go to www.active.com and search for keyword Way Station. This will bring you into the registration page. There are also a couple of peeps who will embark on the one mile walk if you would like to join those dear saints. We would love to have lots of you come alongside of us.

Don’t worry if you haven’t been training, you can use this to catapult your winter fitness regimen! Just thought that I would put it out there...besides with some exercise in the am you can eat more in the pm!!!

Have a blessed day, God is at work all around you!

It’s unbelievable to think about but it is already time to begin fundraising preparations for City Reach 2009. For those of you who don’t know we are heading back to Washington, PA and Life Point Baptist Church. The dates are June 12-19 so go ahead and SAVE THE DATE!

In anticipation of having a more difficult time with fundraising this year I have begun to check into various other alternatives to get out into the community. Let me share with you what we here at SMYDEK have done in the past. In March we have our annual Cake & Pie Auction at FBCGV. This event is always loads of fun and our City Reachers make or bake some sort of desert and then the great people of our church bid outrageous amounts of money on these goodies. The past couple of years we have also sent out Letters of Support to our families and friends outside of our church. Typically we have seen a great result from these efforts and I hope and pray for the same this year.

My purpose for this post is to ask what types of fundraising you have done in the past. Drop it and let me know what has been successful and what has bombed. I am considering getting our students to sell Ugly Mug Coffee. If you have ever sold coffee or any other coffee type beverages.

Be blessed...

One of the biggest rivalries of the area will square off in high school football tomorrow afternoon. The undefeated Linganore Lancers will travel to Urbana Hawks. This is big time. Of course my loyalties lie with my alma mater - Lancers for Life!

While I bleed black and red there is a small part of me that will be routing for the underdog Hawks. Of course if Urbana had existed when I was in high school I would have gone there. Does anyone really comprehend zoning? Who decides those things anyway? I will be attempting to find a somewhat neutral location to watch the game but I hear that it will just about be impossible. Which of course leads to other dilemmas since about half of the SMYDEK crew goes to Linganore and the other half goes to Urbana...ahhhhh.

The craziest thing about this Linganore - Urbana bash is that it will be the very first one that I have ever gone to watch. I know it is hard to believe that such a big event seems like it would gather quite a crowd and it does. I have just always had different things going on. Not this year, I will be there just look for the dude sitting on neutral territory trying to figure out what color to paint his chest!

I guess I will give a prediction....
LHS 24
UHS 10

I am currently sitting in room 1414 of the Omni William Penn with Chris Livengood and Jonathon Johnson (Cliff is asleep already!) We are rehashing our day and discussing communication. This is where the good stuff happens! Pictured above is Starfield...love that guy!

Let me hit you up with a couple thoughts from the day....

LOVE GOD - LOVE OTHERS

Abundant Life is life out of the OVERFLOW!

Are we increasing the frequency and duration of the Holy Moments in our life?

Its okay to be wherever you are at -- its just not okay to stay there!

Acts 17:28 Friends (personalize that junk)
J

I haven’t spent too much time on my long board this summer, I guess it was just flat out too hot or maybe I just lost a little desire for it. Recently though I have been rockin it around Frederick. Riding to Starbucks or to the Gym in the morning. I have had some near collisions with a few automobiles but have managed so far to keep from smacking into anything to date. The more I ride, the more I seem to have that DESIRE...

hmmm. It is no coincidence that this reminds me of the time that we spend with the Almighty, Living, Loving and thankfully Enduring God. Sometimes it seems natural and easy to put Him on the shelf because it is too hot or He doesn’t fit into our current plans or ideas. Well the thing is we need to choose Him all the time, not merely when we need some transportation. Choose Him. Interesting.

As we go to Him, our desire is fed and we CRAVE more and more of Him. Maybe you are solid and on top of the time you are spending with God. I am sure there are some of us who need to brush Him off and take Him off the shelf. Choose Him today - Choose Him right now. Stop what you are doing and go for a ride with the One who will never leave you, the One who is PURSUING you....

It has been really sweet to reconnect with this city. When I lived here I never imagined that one day I would be back years later to help plan something like CityReach. Our meetings have been productive and the results will produce CR09 as we head back to Washington, PA.

I am sitting in a morning meeting right now and getting more and more excited about CR09. There are so many details and each one is essential to the things we do to reach the community in Washington. Greater things are yet to come....

Theme - check
Speaker - check
Worship Band - check
Breakfast - check
